Craig had to escape his homeland in Zimbabwe three
years ago, and now lives in America.
He studied graphic design at Natal University in South
Africa, where he developed his love of painting. However
with a growing emphasis on abstract modern art he became
disillusioned and returned home enrolling in the Rhodesian
Police during the civil war. Keen to do more for his
country he joined the elite 'Green Berets' in 1977 but
was later injured by a mortar bomb. Eight operations
and five months later he left hospital. During his convalescence
he travelled in to the Zambezi Valley bushveld where
he found peace and started painting wildlife.
His first exhibition in 1978, in Harare was a sell-out
and with a growing reputation Craig has since had many
successful shows around the world and publishes limited
edition prints of his work. He often supports charitable
causes and before he was forced to leave, spent all
his free time photographing wildlife in remote areas
of Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique. Craig lives in
the States with his wife and three children but hopes
one day to return to his beloved Africa.
