Hugo was born in Zimbabwe, spending his childhood on
a farm in the north of the country. At senior school
in England he developed his love for photography, although
after five years in the British army he returned home
to take up farming.
In June 2002 his career came to an abrupt end when
his family farm was seized by the Mugabe regime. Hugo
fell back on his camera and now specialises in combining
the arts of photography and painting having left to
live in South Africa.
Hugo now lives with his wife and three children in
Zambia, spending as much time as possible travelling
in the bush in pursuit of elephants and other subjects.
Hugo has exhibited in London and New York.
"As man continues to over populate earth, so all
other mammals are squeezed out of their habitats and
it is only us who can keep them in the wild. We must
strive for balance - image Africa without wild elephants"
Hugo Firx.
